The Fly Fishing Centre is a specialist fly casting and fly fishing company based on the River Tweed system in the Scottish Borders. Located close to the small market town of Kelso, we are a dedicated educational facility, teaching all aspects of learning to fly fish to a broad range of age groups and abilities. As well as the main instructional element of our business, we are also an Authorised LOOP PRO CENTRE and stock and sell the UK’s largest selection of tackle and clothing from this iconic Swedish brand.
We teach all forms of modern speycasting and fly fishing instruction including shooting head, long-bellied and skagit casting techniques. Great emphasis is placed on creating a positive learning environment where pupils feel comfortable and able to realise their full casting potential. All speycasting instruction takes place at our teaching centre on the River Teviot near Kelso. The centre has its own private salmon beat on the river as well as a well-stocked trout lake. Our salmon beat has the fishing rights on both banks, allowing students the opportunity to learn double-handed casting techniques off either shoulder. The beat is 1.8 miles in length and flows through scenic grassland and woodland 3 miles upstream of Kelso. There are 11 named pools ranging from 4-10 feet in depth, with the best of the salmon fishing in the higher waters of mid to late Autumn.
Single-handed casting and trout fishing instruction is based at our well-stocked and newly enlarged lake in the grounds of the Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course. Students can learn basic to advanced casting techniques with a single-handed rod including overhead and roll casting as well as the double haul. There is a 40 seater lecture room and 12 seater fly dressing room, making it ideal for large group and corporate bookings. With nine casting platforms surrounding the facility and a good stock of hard fighting trout, the lake is an ideal environment to learn about all aspects of fly casting and fly fishing.
Cost: Cost of Instruction: £40 per Hour – This includes the opportunity to fish on after the lesson, subject to availability. As well as individual lessons, we can also accommodate larger corporate or family groups of up to ten people on any given day.
Equipment: All LOOP tackle and safety equipment is supplied free of charge if required.
