The Fly Fishing Centre is owned and operated by Eoin Fairgrieve. Eoin is a fully qualified casting member of the Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling Instructors (A.A.P.G.A.I). Whilst working as a ghillie on the River Tweed, he became one of the youngest instructors to qualify in both the A.A.P.G.A.I trout and salmon disciplines and has been professionally teaching fly casting and fly fishing for over twenty eight years. In 2000 Eoin set up an angling development program called ‘Tweedstart’ to encourage more children to take up fishing. In 2005 he was appointed Scotland’s first Angling Development Officer supporting education on the River Tweed and taught over 10,000 children all aspects of fly fishing including entomology, habitat & conservation as well as fly casting and fishing techniques. Inspired by teaching many youngsters to fish, Eoin has written two children’s educational fly fishing books called My First Trout and My First Salmon. In recognition of his work with youth development within the sport, he was awarded the Arthur Oglesby Award in 2011 for services to fly fishing.
Eoin has travelled around the world demonstrating spey casting and conducting fly fishing seminars as well as working as product and media consultant for Loop Tackle Design and government agencies. He is a regular features writer and photographer for the UK’s leading angling publication,Trout & Salmon Magazine, and has contributed to angling publications in Europe, USA and South America. In 2006 Eoin was a member of the Scottish Fly Casting Team, winning the Emerald World Speycasting Championships.
Having pursued Atlantic Salmon for more than 40 years on a number of rivers in Scotland, England, and Wales, Malcolm Douglas has gained a wealth of experience on many beats throughout the British Isles. Malcolm (Mac to his friends) has had many years of experience as a qualified fly casting instructor on the Tweed system and his friendly and professional manner very much adds to the positive experience of learning to improve your fishing and fly casting skills. He specialises in both single-handed and double-handed instruction at the Fly Fishing Centre.
Kevin Paterson is our associate LOOP instructor and has been the manager and ghillie on the attractive Tweedswood beat on the River Tweed for over 25 years. He has an absolute depth of knowledge of both his own water and fishing for Atlantic salmon in general. Kevin holds both the AAPGAI and GAIA certification, as well as being a registered Angling Coach and offers friendly and professional instruction in both trout and salmon fishing on the Tweedswood beat. His water is located on Middle Tweed and offers one mile of double bank fishing and is an excellent environment for learning all aspects of fly fishing for trout and Atlantic salmon.
